Reading Response #1: Of Poseidon

  1.           I love books but do not have much time to read. When I picked up this book the cover instantly intrigued me. A scene of the dark ocean water and a contrast of a girl in a white dress with her white hair shining in the water. She looks so mysterious and graceful, you later learn that this girl is Emma. Emma and her best friend on a vacation together in Destin, Florida. When Emma bumps into Galen, he is instantly intrigued by her. He feels a connection with Emma on land, something that is completely unheard in his kind. Galen is a Syrena, a dangerous but beautiful mermaid creature. When Galen meets Emma he thinks she is of his kind, his sister thinks other wise. When Galen witnesses Emma trying to saving her friend, he sees inhuman things happening. How could it be when she acts so human. He decides to follow her to Jersey, Emma 's home town. He needs to know what she is, and fast.

When I picture a Syrena, I think of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger tides. The author does not really describe what they look like in the book. However, this is what I tend to think of. In the movie a boat full of pirates get attacked by Syrena's. The mermaids lure them in with their mesmerizing song then attack.

" Deep inside, I feel I'm watching my life float away on that glistening board. When I peer down into the water; I feel I'm watching Chloe's life float away with the faint trail of blood, blurred and weakened by each passing wave. The choice is clear." This is Emma's thoughts after her best friend (Chloe) is attacked by a shark. I like this quote because it really shows how much Emma loves and cares about Chloe.
